Pumpkin Spice, Two Ways

There's something about opening a packet of our Pumpkin Pie Protein Balls that gets you before you've even taken a bite. That gorgeous aroma of cinnamon, ginger and warming spices, with all those familiar pumpkin pie flavours (we cant wait for you to live that moment).

And it all comes down to the spice mix.

Getting that unmistakable pumpkin pie flavour just right is all about the ratios, how much cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice and cloves go into the mix. Those ratios are usually our little secret, but we're making an exception for this one!

We're sharing the exact spice ratios we use in our Pumpkin Pie Protein Balls, so you can mix up your own batch at home. And because we couldn't share one recipe without giving you another way to use it, we've also included a DIY pumpkin spice chai latte mix.

Two recipes, one very good reason to put the kettle on.

First up: Homemade Pumpkin Spice Mix

This is the very same spice blend we use to give our Pumpkin Pie Protein Balls their signature warming flavour. It's a simple combination of five ground spices, but getting the balance right is what makes it work.

What you'll need

  • 60g ground cinnamon
  • 20g ground ginger
  • 15g ground nutmeg
  • 10g ground allspice
  • 10g ground cloves
Pumpkin Spice mix

Let's make it

  1. Add all five spices to a clean, dry bowl.
  2. Whisk together until evenly combined, making sure there are no little pockets of individual spices.
  3. Transfer to a clean, airtight jar and store in a cool, dry cupboard.
  4. That's it! You've just made our signature pumpkin spice blend. Keep it handy for baking, stirring into warm drinks or adding a little pumpkin pie flavour to your favourite recipes.

A little tip: This blend is all about the spices, rather than pumpkin itself. It's the combination of sweet, fragrant cinnamon, zingy ginger and those deeper, warming spices that gives it that familiar pumpkin pie aroma.

Next up: DIY Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte Mix

Now that you've got your pumpkin spice blend sorted, let's put it to good use.

This homemade chai latte mix combines our spice blend with coconut sugar and creamy milk powder, giving you a cosy, spiced drink you can whip up whenever you're in the mood for something warm.

What you'll need

  • Half a batch of your homemade pumpkin spice mix
  • 1½ cup coconut milk powder or traditional milk powder
  • â…” cup coconut sugar, or adjust to your preferred sweetness

Let's make it

  1. Add the pumpkin spice mix, milk powder and coconut sugar to a bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly until everything is evenly combined.
  3. Spoon into a clean, airtight jar and store in a cool, dry cupboard.
Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte

Your homemade pumpkin spice chai latte mix is ready to go! Keep a jar in the cupboard for an easy, warming drink at home.

How to make your pumpkin spice chai latte

Ready for your first cup? Here's how to turn your homemade mix into a creamy, spiced chai latte.

What you'll need for one cup

  • 1 black tea bag or 1 teaspoon loose-leaf black tea
  • 2 tablespoons homemade pumpkin spice chai latte mix
  • 200ml milk of your choice
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin purée (optional, if you'd like a more pronounced pumpkin flavour)

Let's make it

  1. Brew your tea. Steep the tea bag or loose-leaf tea in around 60ml of boiling water for 3-5 minutes, then remove the tea bag or strain the leaves.
  2. Add the spice mix. Stir in 2 tablespoons of your homemade chai latte mix until well combined. If you're using pumpkin purée, whisk it in now.
  3. Warm your milk. Heat your milk until hot but not boiling, then froth if you like a little café-style foam.
  4. Bring it all together. Pour the warm milk into your spiced tea and stir well. Give it a taste and add a little extra sweetener if you'd like it sweeter.

Settle in, take a sip and enjoy all those warming pumpkin pie spices in a mug.
